Beauty Schools Listings mourns Michael Jackson’s fruitless search for beauty
Posted on June 26th, 2009 No comments
Michael Jackson Passes…As someone who was very aware of what’s hot, and what’s not, Michael Jackson used every beauty school trick in the book to keep up, no, that’s not right….to stay ahead of beauty trends for the current pop culture. I remember living in LA when I was 10 ish which makes Michael Jackson in thirties, and I would have given my freckles, my lip gloss, and my pager, and my new pink 10-speed bicycle to attend the Michael Jackson concert at Universal Studios that summer. Too young for real beauty techniques, too young for make up, dramatic hair styles, pedicures and manicures, all I wanted was to be in the same space as Michael Jackson. With my mop of red hair, and beauty school attitude, I was sure I could get his attention…even though I wouldn’t have a clue what to do with it if I had it!
Then, I knew no tricks of the beauty trade places like beautyschoolslistings.com were not around back then because if they were I would have attended one of the 500 schools they have on there and I would have known how to attract his attention or anyone else’s
According to the New York Times, “becoming a cosmetologist can take 10 to 18 months of training, and tuition can range from about $8,000 to $18,000, depending on the school and the program.” Ha!I say, if you are dumb enough to attend beauty school in downtown Manhattan or the Hills of Beverly…at beautyschoolslistings.com you will find schools and training for far less. Remember, it’s not the name of the Institute/college on your beauty school diploma that matters to your career in cosmetology -it’s passing the licensing exam.
The tragedy of Michael Jackson’s life is his apparent unhappiness. From all of the beauty treatments, including many plastic surgeries, he endured, it appears he was never happy with the outcomes…as he continued searching for another surgeon to create perfection on his face.
The beauty of beauty college is that none of them promise perfection -rather they deliver state of the art techniques and skills to deliver beauty improvements to your clients. How many professions can promise improvement every time they practice?

Michael Jackson, reality or fantasy?

Michael Jackson, reality or fantasy? As we mourn the sudden passing of a pop icon, we remember the impression Michael Jackson made on pop culture. Moonwalks, gloved hand (covering the manicure), falsetto, and SPLASH! -the man made his mark on our culture with his extreme definition of beauty.
Since he did not attend beauty school, he depended on stylists and hairdressers, makeup artists and manicurists, skin experts and estheticians to maintain his extreme good looks and perfect complexion. Will you be the mentor to the next MegaStar? If you attend beauty school, cosmetology college, or skin specialties, you could have that lucky break to design the hair, nails, skin for the the next MegaStar…it won’t happen without that credential from a licensed beauty school or cosmetology college…find the ideal beauty school for you at beautyschoolslistings.com.

Re-locating after cosmetology school? Here is the 411 on Reciprocity Programs
Posted on June 24th, 2009 No commentsAs if you don’t have enough to think about trying to map out your best possible course for cosmetology school, but your expected to be psychic and predict where you’ll want to live for the rest of your life so your license will actually be useful. When choosing a cosmetology school, applicants should remember their license allows them to practice within the
state they pass the examination. Although reciprocal programs are gaining popularity, most of the 50 states have some minimum requirements for a cosmetologist to practice in a different state than they were licensed.Minnesota- Requires cosmetology school grads to have worked a minimum of 1800 hours within the last three years.
Maryland- requires the previous state’s cosmetology school to meet their criteria for licensing.
Kentucky- Requires a valid license and 2 years experience.
Arkansas – requires both a written and practical examination to be licensed there.
Deleware- Honors cosmetology licenses from all 50 states including D.C.
Any of you planning on living in Hawaii? Hawaii is one of the few states that does not have a reciprocity program so you might want to consider attending cosmetology school there. Colorado does their program a little differently by offering those cosmetologists from other states to apply for an endorsement, kind of like a sponsor, and each case is determined on an individual basis.
Whatever state you may be in, the hours required to complete cosmetology school are relatively consistant state to state. But should you decide to pack up and move to California from Michigan, please keep in mind that not all states have a reciprocity program and it could pose a challenge.

Can I “make-up” for a lack of formal training with my natural talent as a make-up artist?
Posted on June 12th, 2009 No comments
Make-up artist
The art of doing make-up well requires many skills. First, the artist must be perceptive and be able to interpret the needs of their client. Second, they must have and if not acquire, extensive knowledge of the character or persona the client is striving for. This means the artist must be willing to put in time for research of a particular era and/or character. Unlike a painter, whose masterpiece comes from an intimate relationship between canvas and artist, make-up artists work closely with the production team to create the essence they are looking for on the screen. This might solicit feedback that is constructive of the make-up artist and therefore requires the skill of tactfulness and professionalism.
This is an entry-level industry where one starts at the bottom and works their way up the ladder. Often, entry-level is a trainee-make-up assistant, from which they work their way into a make-up assistant position, up to a make-up artist, and ideally reach the position of make-up Designer. Although a formal education is not required to practice the art of make-up on others, training and/or professional courses will be beneficial to the first step in this career, which is often apprenticeships and traineeships. Graduating from beauty school will open up doors for you that sheer natural talent cannot.

“I’m your hairdresser, not your psychiatrist!”

Hair Dresser
One of my mom’s best friends has been a stylist for decades and he tells her the most bizarre stories he hears from his clients. My favorite was the one when he had the wife and the mistress of one man (who was also his client!) in side by side chairs prior to a local New Year’s Eve Gala— Talk about tension?!?
Since I don’t remember any lovers’ triangle murder that year, I guess the stylist will file the story away for when he writes his memoirs after retirement.
This brings me to another beauty school course requirement that I forgot to mention in my last blog: people skills, and the sanctity of the stylist’s chair. Although there’s no stated contract guaranteeing confidentiality between client and stylist, you can be sure it’s implied that what’s overheard in the chair, stays in the chair!
When you enroll in one of the beauty schools or cosmetology colleges listed here on beautyschoollistings.com, you will certainly receive training in communications and human relations…training that will serve you well in every area of your life. What a bargain!
Beauty School certification and professional skills all for one reasonable price…such a deal!

I made the executive decision to attend a Beauty School
Posted on May 18th, 2009 No commentsI made the executive decision to attend the Aveda institute after years of never truly feeling accomplished with a career in mind. After visiting the school, I was inspired to not only better myself and my career but others around me as well. Cosmetology school has enhanced my life by surrounding myself with amazing educators. A motivational atmosphere and making other feel good and beautiful about themselves is what I like the most.
