Beauty Sells!
Posted on June 26th, 2009 No comments
Beauty schools promote their cosmetology product using attractive people, right? A tree frog won’t bring in the beauty business, and I don’t even know what a tree frog looks like! Even though we know all about air brushing, make up, and the illusions of lighting, we want to be that person in the advertisement on the page, billboard, and tv ad.It’s all about the illusion. When you attend beauty college, or cosmetology school, you learn how to make other people attractive—but hey, you also learn how to make yourself attractive, too. Learn the tricks of the beauty trade at beauty school!
Pretty knees are in, pretty knees are out.
Hemlines go up, hemlines go down.
Necklines plunge, necklines rise.
Feet are focal points, or feet disappear in boots.
Hands? Are displays for beautiful diamonds found in wedding rings, engagement rings and anniversary rings!
Nails, hair, make-up are all part of the package of beauty school.
Pedicures, manicures and make-up are all part of the beauty college package. Whether you attend beauty school as part of your self improvement program, or as a career move, or as a backup in case you flunk out of medical school, when you finish the beauty training, you will be good to go for whatever your future holds

A Career in Massage Therapy
Posted on June 17th, 2009 No comments
Thinking of pursuing a career in massage therapy? Here is a snap-shot of the field of massage therapy and what licensed massage therapists are saying about their career choice.According to AMTA (American Massage Therapy Association) reports that the average income for massage therapists in 2007-2008 was $41.50/hr. Massage therapists worked on an average of 41 clients a month. Many massage therapists pursued their massage therapy education for supplemental income, in fact 82% of individuals polled use massage therapy as a second career. So how do you get in on all the action?
First step is to select a school to attend and obtain the required hours of instruction to meet state certification criteria for the state you are in. AMTA’s survey revealed the average number hours spent for massage therapy‘s initial training was 633.
Katie (Massage Therapist in Denver, CO)- “I love this field! The training took me about 9 months to complete, going to school part time and it has been totally worth it. Massage therapy enables me to work out of the comfort of my own home or my clients’. I have this amazing table that is designed to travel so anywhere I go, I can make money doing what I love. I worked in a salon for about a year after I completed my schooling and through contacts and referrals I have built my own business independently. Massage therapy is great for anyone who wants to be their own boss, set their own schedule, and provide a service that makes their clients feel better.”
Maggie (Massage Therapist in Plano,TX)- “Massage therapy has been a great career choice for me. As a massage therapist I have been able to have a career and a family that accommodates mine and my family’s needs. Shortly after I finished my schooling I got married and over the next 4 years had two children. Massage therapy allowed me the flexibility to work and have a family. And my husband has no complaints with the pay-check I bring home each month from massage therapy.”

Posted on June 14th, 2009 No comments
Graduation Cosmetology Schools
Congratulations to all of you high school seniors that make up the Class of ’09. And while some of you are packing up and are off to college, others might be experiencing a little phase that I like to call the “what the hell do I do now” phase. DO NOT PANIC! If the traditional four year college is not for you, there is a buffet of options for you to explore at cosmetology school.
Top 10 reasons why to enroll after high school
- Cosmetology school will be the perfect solution to getting your parents off your back.
- Cosmetology school offers classes that will certify you to work in a variety of fields (i.e. medical offices, salons, hotels/Casinos, Cruise Ships, t.v. and movie sets, etc.)

- Cosmetology school offers programs that can be completed for licensure in as little as nine months.
- Cosmetology school offers training that can be utilized nationwide.
- The field of cosmetology is in the top 5 for industries unaffected by the recession
- Admission requirements are a high school diploma or GED

In good times and bad people continue to spend money on self-care needs. Nails still need to be done, chemical peels performed to erase the wrinkles the stress has induced, massages given to alleviate the stress knot that has taken up residence in your right shoulder blade, and lets face it ladies…..that unwanted facial hair does not go away because your budget wants you to eliminate your excess spending.

The Celebrities Look

Celebrity make up
As a cosmetologist, your clients are your canvas for you to create a masterpiece. Each appointment is an opportunity for you to create a signature look. We all remember the “Jennifer Aniston-do” during her decade as “Rachel” on the hit sitcom Friends, which continues to provide Chris McMillan her stylist with a paycheck that makes the rest of us pay-check-to-pay-check people green with envy.
I hope you are sitting down while you are reading this because in March The Targeted News Service reported that Chris McMillan’s weekly paycheck to style Aniston’s hair on her European tour for “Marley & Me,” was $56,000. …….not a year but per week! I wonder what the make-up artist was paid!

“I’m your hairdresser, not your psychiatrist!”

Hair Dresser
One of my mom’s best friends has been a stylist for decades and he tells her the most bizarre stories he hears from his clients. My favorite was the one when he had the wife and the mistress of one man (who was also his client!) in side by side chairs prior to a local New Year’s Eve Gala— Talk about tension?!?
Since I don’t remember any lovers’ triangle murder that year, I guess the stylist will file the story away for when he writes his memoirs after retirement.
This brings me to another beauty school course requirement that I forgot to mention in my last blog: people skills, and the sanctity of the stylist’s chair. Although there’s no stated contract guaranteeing confidentiality between client and stylist, you can be sure it’s implied that what’s overheard in the chair, stays in the chair!
When you enroll in one of the beauty schools or cosmetology colleges listed here on beautyschoollistings.com, you will certainly receive training in communications and human relations…training that will serve you well in every area of your life. What a bargain!
Beauty School certification and professional skills all for one reasonable price…such a deal!

Is Beauty School right for me?
Posted on June 9th, 2009 No comments
Beauty
Excellent question! First ask yourself do you want to share your gifts of creativity, and manual dexterity, and people skills with others on a daily basis? If the answer is yes, of course beauty school is for you! You can’t have a career in cosmetology without graduating from an accredited beauty college in your state, and you can’t get a license to operate in your state without that degree from one of the beauty colleges on www.beautyschoolslistings.com (Ok, maybe there are other beauty schools out there—but why settle for second best, when the very best is available to you with just a few clicks here
State licensed Beauty Schools vary in terms of their minimum requirements for graduation. My research indicates the minimum is 1,000 hours, while others require up to 2200 hours. Some of those hours are OJT, I’m sure. And in some states and Beauty Schools you can apply some of your hours working with a licensed cosmetologist to fulfill the cosmetology college’s certification requirements. If you have a specific beauty school in mind, click here (LINK) for more information about their beauty school graduation requirements, and cosmetology college certifications.

Beauty School & Cosmetology School: An equal opportunity for success.

Beauty School and Cosmetology School
Even though the average age for beauty school students is 22 years old, the schools listed on www.beautyschoollistings.com welcome all qualified enrollees to master the skills and techniques that make cosmetologists rich and famous—if that’s what they want in life. My friends will settle for rich, but that’s another blog, right?
All states require licensing for cosmetologists, but the qualifications for becoming licensed vary among the states. Graduation from an accredited cosmetology school or beauty college is a universal requirement for a license. And the minimum age for acceptance to a school of beauty is 16 years old everywhere. Some states require a High School diploma before applying to the beauty colleges; others will accept the completion of an apprentice program as a substitute for a high school diploma.
OJT! (On the Job Training!) Loving it! Particularly if you started with fixing your doll’s hair when you were four, why wait to take your talent on the road? Come back for a more thorough discussion of a state by state breakdown of requirements for admission to beauty college, or cosmetology school.
BTW, does anyone know if certain states have reciprocal licensing agreements with each other? Never mind, I’ll find that out for you and blog about it later this month—promise.
Look for “Have License, Will Travel!” as soon as I get the information, I’ll be sure to share it with you!

What Recession in beauty industry?

Beauty Jobs
Wow! I just checked out the Bureau of Labor Statistics numbers on careers in cosmetology and beauty, and it’s all blues skies for beauticians, cosmetologists, and estheticians, manicurists, hair stylists, and other beauty professionals. In fact, those same government numbers predict growth, increased incomes, and expanding demands for all beauty college graduates in every area of the country.
The rest of us may be in the middle of a recession while most beauty school graduates are wondering, “What recession?” As the economic sinks, their business rises.
My friend Amy went from real estate (DUH!) to the beauty school she found on beautyschoollistings.com and was demand even before she graduated from beauty college! “Annie, I should’ve done this as soon as I graduated High School—I’m making more money, and am in total control of my hours, PLUS I’m meeting all kinds of great people who come to me for help with their hair and nails.”
Amy always had her hands in our hair before our “girls’ night out” nights, and we looked a lot better! She said she was too shy to make a success of the beauty business—with the confidence she gained at her beauty college, she is free to express her talents with her clients’ hair.
I’m happy she’s so successful, so soon—as long as she saves me a spot on her crowded schedule to get my unruly red curls into a glorious up do.

why beauty school?
Posted on May 18th, 2009 No commentsI chose Aveda for cosmetology school because of the environment and what they stand for. I also chose this cosmetology school because I want to make a big future for myself in the cosmetology industry. I believe that Aveda institute is going to open that door for me.

Beauty Schools – I made the right choice
Posted on May 18th, 2009 No commentsI chose beauty school because I feel that being able to show your creativity is very important and having educators who are equally wanting to do the same is very inspiring. I have learned so much here at Aveda since the first day of school. I could not have made a better choice. It is awesome to make up every day, wanting to come to school. I love Aveda.
